Democrat Vandalizes Colorado Democratic Headquarters

According to DenverPost.com, there were 11 windows that were shattered at The Democratic National Headquarters in Denver. In a twisted plot, this act of vandalism was not done by a person who is against Obamacare, but yet a person who helped in the 08 campaign for the Democratic Party.

Early Tuesday, Democratic Party chairwoman Pat Waak said the damage to her building in Denver's art district was a consequence of "an effort on the other side to stir up hate." Pat Waak has not apologized for her false accusation but has tempered her comment.

"Maurice Schwenkler, now in custody, and an at-large accomplice took a hammer to the picture windows displaying posters touting President Barack Obama and his health care reform efforts." Public records show that he has an arrest record and a history of helping a Democratic political candidate.

He is accused of doing an estimated $11,000 in damage and could face a felony conviction. Last year, on the last day of the 2008 Republican National Convention, he was charged with misdemeanor unlawful assembly in St. Paul, Minn. " Schwenkler was one of dozens of paid canvassers bankrolled by the Colorado Citizens' Coalition, a political 527 committee funded by labor groups and well-known, wealthy liberal donors."

"Balmer said he suspects the vandalism might
have been aimed at making the GOP look bad.
"

"This sounds like the type of Democratic tactic from the left fringe trying to make Republicans look mean-spirited," Balmer said. "In this case, it blew up in their face. He was caught red-handed."

This certainly seems fishy. I think that this guy was trying to make the grassroots people who are against Obamacare look bad. Well, that blew up in his face. He now looks like a moron.

Nice try. Smears don't look too good when they are exposed.

Opie,
This definitely backfired on him.

The Left doesn't need us to make them look bad, they do a great job of it themselves.

Conservative Lady,
Good point. I agree.

Maybe. And maybe he was just another pissed off liberal that feels betrayed by Obama's right-wing style of government.

Sadly, Conservative Lady, you are right. And still the Left looks better than the right.

Seda,
The Right is the party of freedom and is for all people succeeding, and that's why the right will always look much better than the left. The left only likes hearing one set of ideas. One example being the huge cover up of Obama by the MSM during the election. The MSM are not true journalists at all. They didn't have the decency or ethics to reveal the true radical Obama.

Teresa,
It's funny you should say, "The left only likes hearing one set of ideas." I was just thinking earlier today about how conservatives seem to lock into their own echo chamber and cut themselves off from any contact with other ideas! Indeed, I see comments left by liberals on Right-wing blogs far more often than I see conservatives comment on Left-wing blogs - which would indicate to me that the exact opposite is true.

The Right does like to talk about freedom, that's true. Problem is, their actions speak so loudly, I can't hear those words. In practice, Republicans are the party of the giant corporations, of fascism, of elitism and privilege - NOT freedom, and certainly not success for everyone.

The left stands for freedom, responsibility, justice, equality, and compassion.

And the MSM stands for making money, and for keeping the people misinformed so that we remain unaware of the fascism that is overtaking our country, and just let it happen. Which we've been doing since at least Reagan took office.

I think we'd do better to actually listen to each other. Because I don't think you stand for fascism and elitism. I think you stand for freedom and responsibility - kinda like me. I think we have real differences, but I also think we should put them aside until after we've managed to disassociate corporate and state power. Because that power elite is putting it over us both - and it's a lot more integrated with the Republican party than the Democratic party - so far.

Seda,
I believe that on both the left and right there are people on the fringes of both parties who just don't want to listen to the others' ideas. But, I think for the most part, just from my experience from talking to liberals, conservatives are much more open to listening to the democrats ideas. My thoughts pretty much get disregarded in my neighborhood because I'm a conservative.

Fascism is actually a combination of beliefs from the left and right and usually is created from economic collapse. One example is Mussolini. One example of a socialist is Hitler- just look at what Nazi means. A Republican or conservative has never grown to the level of abusing people's freedoms' like the examples of socialists, communists, fascists that have in the past. Because conservatives are capitalists and believe in freedom.
Conservatives believe in freedom for all including the unborn, who are human beings but in the lefts fascist nature they won't recognize the scientific evidence that in fact proves the unborn baby is alive in the mothers womb, only out of inconvenience.

Seda,
Conservatives believe in freedom for all but also believe in traditional values that are associated with the family. The left have diminished the importance of families staying together and traditional values over the last 50 or so years, and consequentially have dismantled the importance of family as a whole which has caused the break up of families.
Most of the left wing bloggers that I have seen come to conservatives blogs haven't commented on the substance but rather like to pop up anonymously and leave comments with expletives instead. But, don't you think that it is kind of narrow minded to think just because conservatives don't comment on the lefts blogs you assume that we are not open to discussion? I don't think just because liberals may not be commenting at conservative blogs that their closed-minded. Maybe they have better things to do like fight for our freedom in this age of Obama trying to shut the freedom of dissent down. I have never seen the left promote responsibility. The left usually likes to reward the slackers, who won't do for themselves today-not can't. I don't see any compassion in promoting murder of unborn babies or euthanasia, which kills off our elderly and the sick just to save a few bucks. The right wants to help the disadvantaged by giving them a leg up, but the left wants to give them the whole enchilada without having any sense of responsibility and work hard ethic. This diminishes the will of the person, and promotes them in not doing anything for themselves, and expecting others' to take care of them.

Their can never be equality among everyone. There will always be some group that has more than the other.

You are one of the few liberals that have commented on my blog that disagrees and comments on the issues. I congratulate you for that. Yes, I do believe that both the left and the right need to listen to one another. I don't think you stand stand for fascism, or elitism, either. Actually, the left has caught up with Republicans and even surpassed us with backing corporations and other elites. The Republicans may have started out as for the "rich" but now it is for the common man more than the Democratic party is now. I think the amount of federal power and elitism, or corporate power needs to be reduced in some cases.

“…just from my experience from talking to liberals, conservatives are much more open to listening to the democrats ideas.” – That’s interesting. My experience has been exactly the opposite, though I’ve seen plenty of flames from both sides. I wonder why?

Fascism is a political-economic system, just like socialism, capitalism, and communism. Nazism is an extreme form of it, rather like Marxism is an extreme form of socialism. And you’re right that fascism in this country has not reached totalitarianism – so far. It has, however, weakened our political system and our freedom to the point, as Tod points out (http://todstrohblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/democracy-in-name-only.html), that I’m not so sure we have far to go. It’s pretty easy to point to the left and cry, “Fascist!” because Democrats are almost as complicit at Republicans. (Case in point: the current health care bill.) Almost – but not quite.

The left believes in freedom for all and real family values. (What are “traditional” values, anyway?) Thank the left for your right to vote, your ability to get an education and pursue a career, the 40-hour work week, paid vacation and sick leave (if you have it), and so much more that really does make a difference for families. The left is the folks who are trying to get health care for children and families (even though the current bill is messed up), and have been since FDR and the Great Depression. Divorce is what breaks up families, but many times that can save the woman’s life, or make an intolerably bad situation less bad. The prevalence of it can be traced more to consumerism and the cultural changes that have evolved over time – to most of the individuals involved, marriage doesn’t mean what it did100 years ago – and that’s true for the left and the right. Apparently, it can also be traced to inequality among the sexes. The highest divorce rates are among the most conservative Christians in this country – probably because, as studies show (http://www.thefword.org.uk/blog/2009/07/non-feminist_mo), feminist women less hostile toward men than non-feminist women. Which, when you think about it, is totally to be expected. It’s easier to get along with someone when you feel equal to them.

I wish y’all had helped us fight for freedom back when Bush was shutting down the freedom to dissent. Perhaps Obama would have decided it wasn’t worth it. Instead he’s got a precedent to follow. If the only time it’s okay to dissent is when a Democrat is in office – well, I have a problem with that.

The left does promote responsibility. We’re the folks who are trying to get universal health care. We’re the ones who try to get treatment for the addicted and the mentally ill, rather than toss them out into the streets or into jail. We’re the ones promoting contraception – after all, the only way to eliminate abortion is to eliminate unwanted pregnancy. We’re the ones promoting access to education (though I’ve got major problems with the way the left usually promotes k-12 education) – which is the best leg up you can give someone. We’re the folks who are trying to protect our environment – the precious biosphere that grants us life. The right fails at almost every point to promote real responsibility – and when they attempt it, the beneficiaries are always the ultra-rich, not working people.

I have never seen anyone on left (except maybe a few way out on the fringes, equivalent to neo-Nazis on the right) promote euthanasia. Certainly I don’t. That’s a far cry from allowing terminally ill people to choose to die with dignity. Once again, the left promoting freedom and personal responsibility.

You’re right that there can never be equality among everyone. Each person has unique talents, abilities, and characteristics. We can, however, work toward equality of opportunity.

I don’t know where you get the idea that Democrats have surpassed the Republicans in elitism and catering to the rich. (Perhaps Rush?) They’ve gone a long way toward it, but still have a way to go. The GOP is a wholly owned subsidiary of corrupt corporations such as Blackwater, Bechtel, Halliburton, GE, Monsanto, etc. The Democrats are only about ¾ owned – they still owe some allegiance to Labor and environmentalists, whose interests compete directly with the multinational corporations.

Thanks for being open to discussion, and for keeping it real. It’s all too easy to flame someone who disagrees, but it just isn’t effective or helpful. I really believe that conservatives and liberals mostly want the same things – to be left alone to live our lives; to have access to health care and education and work and nature and the other things that make life meaningful, bearable, and free; to live in safe and peaceful communities; to love our families and children freely and openly. We are not enemies. We are neighbors who sometimes disagree on the ways to accomplish common goals. And it’s really sad that so many commentators, talk-show hosts, and politicians distract our attention from the real dangers that threaten our democracy, and pit us one against the other in antagonism. Divide and conquer is still the rule of the day.
