Rule 5 - Yvette Vickers Found Mummified

From People:

This is bizarre. Yvette Vickers' uncollected mail gathered cobwebs outside, inside her dilapidated Los Angeles home. Then last Wednesday the police acted on a tip that was called in by one of her neighbors who was concerned and the police ended up discovering Yvette's mummified remains, of the cult star of the space-alien B-movies Attack of the 50 Foot Woman and Attack of the Giant Leeches. Vickers was 82, had long been a recluse – and could have been dead for as long as a year, reports the Los Angeles Times.

That's one good thing about having debts - there's no way I could just sit there and dry out without some bill collector checking up on me.

There was probably some mental illness involved. I am sad for her. The state of things with regard to the mildly mentally ill is that we cannot help them if they do not want to be helped. So sad to see the deterioration and not to be able to help.

Definitely a doll in her day but have to say I agree with Inno.

Besides bill collectors though what is with Californian's? In my neighborhood we know when something is wrong. Not that we spy on each other but all by nature and sound get quite familiar with each others movements or lack of them.

I was doing just fine until the mummy thing. Did you mean Mommy?

innom,

I guess that's one "benefit" to having debts.

Opie,

It is extremely sad to see how her life deteriorated. Unfortunately, you can't force a person to get well or get help if they don't want to.

Christopher,

Your right, you would think somebody in the neighborhood would have noticed something was wrong. I don't know... I think many in California and New York live in a totally different world than the rest of us.

Odie,

Unfortunately when one is left dead for about a year they become mummified. How sad...

Apparently, Vickers had nobody to check on her by her own choice. Quite sad really.

Very sad that the mail carrier didn't mention the yellow mail piling up. Very sad that the neighbor didn't make a point of checking on her more often. Very sad.

Also sad was the death of Allison Hayes, the actress who played the 50 foot woman. Hayes died in 1977
at the age of 46. Her death was was due either to leukemia or lead poisoning (due to doctor-prescribed calcium supplements).
