Rick Santorum: Republicans Should Take a Lesson from Pope Francis

In his CPAC speech Rick Santorum said that Republicans should learn to better communicate their message.  Republicans need to look at Pope Francis as an example of a person who communicates his message very well.  Santorum said that Republicans should reach out to those who are suffering, talk about their positive policy agenda and spend less time courting business owners.

From Christian Post:
"I think we need to take a lesson from someone who is maybe the most popular person in the world right now — Pope Francis," he said.
Francis is "going out there and not talking about what the Christian faith is against. He's going out there and talking about what we're for. He hasn't changed a single policy. He won't change a single policy. But what he'll do is he'll go out there and talk about the good news to a hurting world because he believes that is what the world needs. It needs the Lord," he said.
"Well, we're not a religion," he continued, "and we're not going to go out there and talk about the good news. But what we need to do is go out and talk about the news of a good America and what that good America can be. We need to paint a picture for people. We need to use a brush where they see themselves in the painting. They see a part of their life, where they hear someone or see a policy and say, 'that's me.' We need to be the 'that's me' party.

Below is Rick Santorum's entire CPAC speech.

Does the GOP have any positive policies that actually would be good news for most of the people?

This sort of surprises me. I live in a heavily fundamentalist Catholic area, and I see and hear the conflict ion many of them have regarding Pope Francis. I wouldn't have expected Santorum to proffer Francis as a model of communication technique.

Jersey McJones,
The Establishment Republicans do not.The Tea Party Republicans do.
I say the GOP needs another Great Communicator like Ronald Reagan

Jersey,

Conservatives. Not GOP establishment. One idea which could bring prices down is citizens having the ability to purchase health insurance across state lines.

There are policies with less red tape and more efficiency for the medical profession.

CI,

If you disregard the Pope's interviews, listen to his homilies and watch his actions I agree with Santorum.

Yes we do.

Theresa, I don't disregard Pope Francis at all. What I'm saying is that much of his message is being accepted only with some discomfort in my area.

He's, shall we say, a bit more liberal minded than most of his predecessors.

CI,

When I stated "you" I didn't mean Constitutional Insurgent specifically. I meant you in a general way. Please pardon me for writing how I think and speak sometimes. The Pope's interviews haven't been clear. They've been a bit confusing. In my opinion when the Pope has given homilies and in what he has done around St. Peter's Square is a great example of good communication.

While it may seem like Pope Francis is more liberal he is simply Catholic.
