The Rug Doesn't Lie

I know that there are at least some conservatives out there jumping on the bandwagon and agreeing with the assessment that the Martin Luther King Jr. quote attributed to him on the rug in the Oval Office is misattributed to King but after researching that particular quote, its attribution is indeed correct.

Obama's Oval floor piece contains five quotes from past presidents and Martin Luther King Jr.

From The Daily Caller, here are the five quotes:

•“The Only Thing We Have to Fear is Fear Itself” – President Franklin D. Roosevelt

•“The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Towards Justice” – Martin Luther King, Jr. (this is the controversial quote)

•“Government of the People, By the People, For the People” – President Abraham Lincoln

•“No Problem of Human Destiny is Beyond Human Beings” – President John F. Kennedy

•“The Welfare of Each of Us is Dependent Fundamentally Upon the Welfare of All of Us” – President Theodore Roosevelt

Here is the original quote by Theodore Parker.  In Parker's book "Of Justice and the Conscience" (1853) he asserted: "I do not pretend to understand the moral universe; the arc is a long one, my eye reaches but little ways; I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. And from what I see I am sure it bends towards justice."

According to Wikipedia, Martin Luther King Jr. echoed the same sentiments of Parker but only more succinctly.  Martin Luther King Jr. did indeed say "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice".

I do agree that the Bush-era rug displayed an air of optimism whereas the new rug that Obama chose for the oval office is quite drab and honestly IMO displays pessimism. Bush endeared, loved, and raved about his rug since his wife Laura designed it. His rug displayed what looked like rays of sun.

All I hear is "welfare...welfare..." Sounds like Obama to me.

He couldn't create a private sector job at a lemonade stand.

I'm hearing the same message as Opus.

If the arc of the moral universe bends toward justice, methinks it is bending away from Obama and his policies.

Justice cannot be kept in a Marxist straightjacket, no matter how the Obamatons twist the language and the Constitution.

Teresa,

I tend to agree with both Opie and Bunni but I also see something else.

Maybe i am very cynical but see the new one as very drab, like maybe what the Kremlin might have whereas the old one showed ryas of sun so to speak.

One could even attribute to Masonic symbols in the old rug, but then again Masons are about building not teaering down.

Opie,
That is so true. He'd want the government to pay him for manning the lemonade stand.

Quite Rightly,
It sure does seem to be bending toward us and conservative policies, thankfully.

When Justice is kept in a Marxist straightjacket then those people propagating a false type of justice surely have loads of screws loose.

Christopher,
I agree with you about the rug being drab. It's quite possible that the rug would be compatible with that of the Kremlin.

I know the sun rays on the old rug was supposed to display brightness and optimism. Not quite sure about it containng Masonic symbols.

Teresa,

I said "could" meaning I have no evidence but some might wonder.

That said, I have no problem with it as most Founding Fathers were in fact Mason's based of Solomen of the Bible

Now, if their agenda has changed then I may have a big problem as we all will.

Don't ask what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you ... as thought by Obama.

I love this blog-- there really is no humor as funny as unintendional humor. Now, it's "Teh Rug"... hilarious.

Opie: FYI, private sector jobs have increased. And the "welfare" quote was from TR, a Republican and later a Bullmoose.

Christopher: the Kremlin? Really. LOL.

At least those lefties who had Bush Derangement Syndrome were upset with untruths about war, WMD's, cvilian deaths, torture, rule of law, and not "Teh Rug"!

I guess I'll pencil you six in as not voting for Obama in 2012. Damn, this is funny stuff.

President Bush was proud of the White House. Listen to the Obama family, they tolerate the White House. Of course they use it for parties (all the time) but BHO deep down dislikes America. So the White House represents something tainted in BO's mind.
