Beyond The Lord of the Rings: Parallels Between Characters/Themes and Actual History

One of my favorite movies or movie trilogies is The Lord of the Rings.  I found a video which shows parallels between elements of Lord of the Rings (characters and themes) and actual history.  This documentary shows parallels between characters in LOTR and historical figures such as: King Henry V, William Wallace, Theodore Roosevelt, Benjamin Franklin, and Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin.  This video is lengthy, about 50 minutes long, is very interesting, and is well-worth the viewing.  I advise you to please grab a beverage and a snack, sit back, relax while watching this documentary. Enjoy watching the show!

I will probably have more time for this on Saturday, which is my rest day. I will enjoy a nice hot coffee with delicious homemade Amish bread.

I've always thought that there were many parallels between Saruman and Bush: both of them were really controlled by a higher power, both of them attacked countries that hadn't attacked them, and neither of them would admit it.

Liberty,

Bush was spreading freedom and not enslaving others like Saruman, so trying to make the parallel between the two doesn't work.

I'm sure the Iraqis and Afghans feel real free...as they have curfews...and can't run their own countries...and are under the control of a foreign invasion force...

But we shan't get into all that. I'm just saying that the rhetoric of Saruman seemed quite akin to some I've heard Bush spout in the past. True, Saruman could talk...and Bush couldn't...but that's neither here nor there. We shan't argue. ;)

Well... Curfews compared to living under unending constant torture, murder, rape, et al. under Saddam is a much better state of freedom than before. U.S. is no longer in control. Iraqis are under the control of the Iraqi government and security forces.

At least Bush could talk without having a teleprompter attached at the hip, using it as a crutch ;)
