Is Obama FBI Using Gestapo Style Tactics? Marine Veteran Brandon Raub Detained Over Facebook Posts

Alexander Higgins: "Last Thursday, a US Marine was detained by the FBI and local authorities for posting controversial anti-government political comments on the social media site Facebook."

Brandon Raub was detained by the FBI and the local authorities and ordered to have a psychiatric evaluation.

"Although 26 year-old Brandon Raub was detained and forced to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, he was not charged with any criminal misconduct, a hallmark of the NAZI gestapo tactic of indefinite psychiatric detention to crush political dissent.
A federal judge has said there is no basis with which to hold Raub and has ordered his release. He has since been released.
John Whitehead, a constitutional attorney representing Raub, joins RT to discuss how the US government violated his client’s first amendment rights."
Now I have heard that as a soldier (former soldier too?) if you are presently serving there are limits on what you can say against the government and the Commander-in-Chief but I wouldn't think that quoting song lyrics on Facebook which may have some violent content to them would be considered some sort of act against the government. Plus, he is a former marine so if he isn't enlisted anymore what right does the government have to spy on a former marine? In my opinion this is a clear violation of Brandon Raub's first amendment rights.
Raub's attorney John Whitehead made an appearance on GBTV recently and told Beck thathe is getting calls from military veterans all over the country subjected to the same Nazi style psychiatric detention for their political views."
"More alarming, is when Beck asked if people of left-wing ideology – specifically members of Occupy Wall Street – are being detained Whitehead responded  saying he can’t say for sure because people all over the country are just disappearing.
He also reveals that while Raub was in psychiatric detention one of the psychiatrists that he was seeing threatened to “brainwash” him and force him to take medication."

Here is the interview:

This is utterly outrageous!! Yet, another reason to vote Obama out of office. I am happy to hear that Raub's attorney is suing to change a Virginia state law that "allows authorities to place a person in emergency custody and hold them for four hours unless a magistrate enters a temporary detention order (TDO). Raub was held under this law, specifically Va. Code § 37.2-808, for days."

Our Veterans deserve to be honored and treated with dignity. Not to be treated with suspicion like they are criminals. Our young men and women in the military have served to protect our freedoms. It is unconscionable that now they are being targeted by our government. This ticks me off to no end. This has got to stop!

During the last Administration there was a label for those who blamed every action on that Administration....it was called Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Just saying.....

Brandon Raub had two separate Facebook accounts...one under the name "Brandon Raub" and the other under the name "Raub Brandon". His posts on both pages advocated violence against specific names and specific government agencies and said over and over he was getting ready to start a revolution, and that "the world will be watching". He brought it on himself. I wouldn't dare post the things he did on facebook without expecting to get a visit from the FBI. He had it coming.

Constitutional Insurgent,

I would call it Revealed Truths About Obama Syndrome or Defense of Liberties Syndrome. LOL!

I could be wrong but I don't recall this sort of thing going on under the Bush administration - targeting our military. If it did I am open to correction. If it did it is obviously a government infringement thing and not limited to specific administrations infringing upon rights.

Yes, great minds think alike, Teresa, I was outraged when I read this too. How horrible. All this crap because of obummer, he has to GO.

I'll have to check it out Hack. I think I heard his lawyer say something about a revolution. Is it possible he meant something along the lines how we conservative bloggers talk when we talk of having a peaceful revolution? Plus, I heard the violence was pertaining to a games or games on Facebook so that was possibly fictional violence. Don't know but sure will do some searching on this.

"I would call it Revealed Truths About Obama Syndrome or Defense of Liberties Syndrome."

But all you've done is add the name Obama in front of FBI. There's no intellectual honesty in such connection...and you wouldn't let it stand if directed toward a GOP Administration.

You haven't even alluded to a casual relationship to POTUS and the FBI investigating Raub.

Teresa said...

Is it not Obama's FBI while he is in office? You haven't shown me that this sort of thing happened under Bush, Clinton, or any other administration. So, yes, it is legitimate for me to connect this administration with the way they are persecuting military men and women. Prove that the Obama administration isn't ordering this hostility towards our veterans.

Teresa said...

Actually I wouldn't give a crap if someone used a GOP name with this. Or maybe not offended like you are suggesting. I would be appalled at whichever administration ordered this sort of thing. I don't put anything past this administration. It has stuff that's going on that's worse than Watergate.

Hack,

You may want to read this http://jhaines6.wordpress.com/2012/08/26/the-truth-by-brandon-j-raub-on-friday-november-11-2011-at-1000-am-from-raubs-facebook-page-thanks-to-d/

While he is a 9/11 Truther nothing else sounds threatening or nutty.

I know what a false allegation can do to someone so unless their is proof that he threatened people specifically I don't buy it. He played games on Facebook so the names may not be real names but Avatars or fake playing names for the games. Do you have anything which shows these so-called threats against people or is it just hear say?

Do you understand how it looks when you accuse the POTUS of directing a low level FBI investigation. Agree or disagree with the basis for the detention of Raub....a President is simply not involved in this level of minutiae...unless of course you have some sort of proof.

The assumption that this was 'ordered' by the Administration is utterly baseless on it's face. You also only have what has been released to the press, so we don't know if there is more to the investigation. But if that bar is set at blaming the POTUS for anything any Federal agency does, then I will be curious to see how that transitions to a Romney Administration.

Teresa said...

I don't care. Obama sure as heck doesn't give a crap about me. The feeling is mutual.

Teresa said...

Yes, they do Bunni. You can be sure Obummer or his administration is involved in this in some way. So friggin' despicable. Have a great week.

A President's administration can so be involved in this type of stuff and especially how hands on intrusive thinking they are above the law this administration is. Get over it. Move on Constitutional Insurgent. It's a blog post. Don't be a fascist pig police when it comes to blog titles or blog commentary.

Well, you have a point. Since the passage of the Patriot Act, an Administration 'could' essentially do anything they wanted.

"Don't be a fascist pig police when it comes to blog titles or blog commentary."

Defense mechanisms engaged? Nah, I'm sure you were just fine with the 'Nazi' and 'Gestapo' references during the previous Administration. You know, logical consistency and all...

Teresa said...

The Bush administration did nothing near as intrusive, the number of things, nor as consistently as the Obama administration.

The Patriot Act as a whole is unconstitutional. If some parts of it were clarified and/or eliminated then it would be fine. But the Bush administration didn't use it to harm or expound upon it like the Obama administration has.

Like Hack, I think that Raub's posts were indeed alarming. I'm not sure that he should have been whisked away and held (obviously the judge didn't think there were grounds to hold him). Most alarming is the assertion that "people all over the country are disappearing." If true, this is totally unacceptable on every single level.

And yes, CI, this admin does involve itself in "low level" investigations and actions. TEA Party groups across the country are being investigated by the IRS, the NLRB targeted Boeing, the Justice Dept targeted Gibson (and refused to prosecute the NBPP), and the EPA and FDA are targeting "preppers." And let's not forget that the DOJ and WH are blaming "low level" ATF for Fast and Furious, an operation that obviously was known about and approved at high levels both in the DOJ and WH. This isn't random, and it's not an accident that conservatives and the Constitution are the targets of this Chicago-style thuggery and intimidation campaign.

Teresa, I took screenshots of all the things he posted on his personal page. They can be viewed here...http://hackwilson.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-brandon-raub-facebook-posts-why-was.html

As far as the "Raub Brandon" page that included direct threats to specific people, that account has since been shut down.

This is Obama's America.

If he is re-elected, we can expect more of the same -- and more Draconian, too.

Fuzzy and Hack,

I looked at the screenshots and saw a few comments which gave me pause but I wouldn't call them alarming. Maybe reason for some concern from family members and friends but not from any government entity. The comments are too vague, non-specific, and not necessarily of a threatening nature to be considered an immediate threat to either himself or others. The axe comment was explained by his lawyer as Raub talking to his sister about a game. While I do believe he is a bit of a nut because he is a 9/11 Truther I didn't see any evidence of him saying he was going to harm anyone. Some things he said could imply that he talking about violence but it also could be seen in a different light also - that he talking about peaceful means if you keep in mind his other comments.

Teresa said...

Just a thought - I wonder if the "Raub Brandon" Facebook page was posted by a different person trying to make the real Brandon Raub look bad?

Teresa said...

Rick & AOW,

Yep. This is one more reason why we need to vote Obama out of office in November.

This is a sad commentary and bloggers should pay close attention. I am not sure what to think, but the thought that the government is checking out all of our stuff, is lesson enough.
