G-20 and The Pleasant Face Of Martial Law

The Wednesday before the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh, my husband Kevin, a friend, and I went down to Pittsburgh to look for protesters. Instead, we ended up finding the "green Jobs" rally. It was quite interesting. The music was pretty good. Meanwhile that same day there were Green Peace protesters who decided to act a little nutty and dangle off the West End Bridge. Earlier in the week I had heard about something very disturbing regarding the protesters. The police had found barrels of piss and feces in a warehouse near the Convention Center, where the G-20 was being held last week. And, I couldn't find anything definitive online and then one of my neighbors said someone had encountered a water gun with piss in it on a road near us. Then, there were the violent G-20 Resistance protesters who were illegally protesting and causing major havoc for our fine police officers.
Then, on Friday during the G-20 Summit we traversed to downtown Pittsburgh again. We looked for protesters once again, but only ended up finding a few clusters of protesters. Thanks heavens, these protesters were peaceful and actually really nice. One set of protesters actually stopped just so I could take pictures and video of them. Downtown Pittsburgh was very peaceful and the streets were quite desolate. There were bunches of police officers but hardly anyone else walking around downtown. My husband referred to this as the "pleasant face of Martial Law."
Here are some videos and pictures of both days:

There is nothing pleasant about the face of martial law. Keep your powder dry.

Right Wing Extreme,
That's what I thought, until I saw Pittsburgh on Friday.

Teresa,
Have you ever seen The Siege? New York is under attack by Islamofascist terrorist. As a last ditch move the US declares martial law, suspends posse comitatus and moves in troops. Everything is pleasant for a time, then the whole city erupts in a classic depiction of an "orgy of violence." That's kinda what I was saying. There may be a smile that you can see, but in any occupied city, there is a festering resentment underneath. It is worse, not better, if that occupation is by troops of your own nation. Great Movie by the way, I highly recommend it.

Great account of the event. And good images.RWE I saw the movie the Siege and quickly realized the very left leaning plot with the general who was under the command of the president being the heavies, while the FBI agents were able to control what was a massive terrorist attack. The moveie was good, but as I said before---Hollyweird version on terrorism.

RR,

I grant you that overall it was very left leaning, but having been in the military, I don't think it all that far off base. Possibly not the cutting of the prisoner, but then again.......

What disturbs me is that the mere presence of a few phonies from a few jagoff countries can shut down such a small city. My mother-in-law, who works by PPG Place, said she had to stay home for 2 days because she couldn't get into the city. Last time I checked, that's not America...that's some Socialist state.

WomanHonorThyself,
Glad you enjoyed the pics.

Ron,
Thanks. I really enjoyed being able to stroll downtown without having to deal with traffic or huge amounts of people.

Dr. Dave,
I agree with you there. Too bad your mother-in-law had to put with that mess. It was literally like a ghost city, or maybe what you would see if there was a blizzard. But, for a person who never takes buses, it was real easy for me to catch one from southside to go downtown.

Hi, Teresa:

It's a real pity that someone didn't manage to throw a bucket of shit all over Gordon Brown. That would have made my day although, having said that, he's been having a rotten time over here for the past few days.
