Highlights From Final Debate Between Scott Brown & Martha Coakley

The final debate in the US Senate campaign between Scott Brown (R) and Martha Coakley (D) was held on Monday night. The two candidates clashed on many issues such as health care, taxes, and terrorism last night and at times the debate became quite heated. The news article by the Boston Globe states that Coakley seemed annoyed. I hope that her displaying emotions of being irritated when forced to answer tough questions from her opposition negatively impacts her campaign. If her feathers get ruffled whenever she is challenged by her opposition maybe she shouldn't be in the politial arena. Coakley constantly focused on the past and Bush's economic policies, instead of Scott Brown's economic policies. Brown is against the current health care bills in congress right now. Coakley said she would be proud to vote for the bill which does nothing to address the real issues of health care costs and health care accessibility. I didn't watch the debate but according to this article in the Boston Globe, a very liberal newspaper, it sounds like Scott Brown did very well.

"But the sharpest exchanges came over national security, with Brown hammering Coakley for supporting civilian prosecution of suspected terrorists - including the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed - and for not backing President Obama’s proposal to add troops in Afghanistan."

' “We are at war,’’ Brown said. “We’re at war in our airports. We’re at war in our shopping malls. I have to be honest with you, folks. . . . I’m scared at some of the policies that I’ve heard.’’ '

Coakley at times seemed annoyed by Brown’s rhetoric, accusing him of stretching the truth.

At times, Brown took umbrage when Coakley challenged him.

“I’m not in your courtroom,’’ he said at one point, as Coakley displayed a wry smile. “I’m not a defendant.’’

Brown also bristled at suggestions that the seat he was seeking was a Kennedy seat, despite being held for decades by a family member or confidant.

“With all due respect, it’s not the Kennedys’ seat,’’ Brown said. “It’s not the Democrats’ seat. It’s the people’s seat.’’

“You can run against Bush-Cheney, but I’m Scott Brown,’’ Brown responded. “I live in Wrentham. I drive a truck.’’

He went on to assert that Coakley’s fiscal policies - her support for a health care overhaul, for rolling back the tax cuts signed by Bush, and for a cap-and-trade system to stem climate change - would raise taxes and cost jobs.

“There’s no one that’s listening right now that believes, Martha, that you are the tax-cutting candidate,’’ Brown said.

“The climate is always changing; it always has,’’ he said. “There’s a question of whether it’s manmade or natural, and it’s probably a combination of both.’’

But the Republican’s main goal last night seemed to be to try to cast Coakley as weak on terrorism.

“To think we’d give people who want to kill us constitutional rights and lawyer them up at our expense, instead of treating them as enemy combatants to get as much information as we can under legal means, it just makes no sense to me,’’ Brown said. “And it shows me that you don’t quite understand the law when it comes to enemy combatants versus terrorists versus United States citizens.

Brown OWNED the national security portion of the debate. She's another crazy azz lib who thinks that terrorists should have more rights than Baptists (did you see that horror show Southers on how we are the actual dangers to this country, not terrorists? what a jackazz).

Brown for U. S. Senate ALL THE WAY.

David Gergen did what he could to suck all the fire out of that debate. Brown held his own and stayed on the accelerator.

Fuzzy Slippers,
It sounds like Brown did awesome!! I didn't see the horror. I will have to see if there's a youtube video of that.

Nickie,
That's good that Brown kept his foot on the accelerator. I wish I had seen the debate last night.

Hey Teresa, here's the link to Gateway Pundit's piece on Southers. He in turn links to HotAir (where the Baptists are worse than terrorist vid is): http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/01/obamas-latest-nutjob-tsa-nominee-erroll-southers-says-pro-lifers-are-terrorists-video/

I link on my page to the fab observation that our alliances with France and Israel are why terrorists hate us. Southers is one scary guy.

Nickie, Gergen was pro-Croakley from minute one, and when she faltered, he was right there to help her out. It was sickening.

Fuzzy Slippers,
Thank You. I watched it and was horrified. He is an anti-Christian bigot.

I hope the large number of independents in Massachesetts realize that their best hope is to vote for Brown. But I fear that too many who live in that state have their heads so far up their a$$ that the debate points will not be heard.
