My New Year's Thoughts

I have started reading an excellent book called, It's Your Time by Joel Osteen which has a very positive message. One message from the book says, don't let tough times get you down because you never know what great things that God has in store for you in the future. This morning I have been pondering about both the past, present and future. During my life I have never let the fact that I am blind in one eye stop me, or at least tried not to let it stop me. These past couple years have been rough for me because of me having endometriosis, being unemployed because of dealing with extreme pain, but also the past has posed challenges for me in both the workplace and schooling with regards to me being blind in one eye. I have vowed in my life that I wouldn't let the inability to see with more than one eye affect me in any way. But, I think that it has affected in some ways. I have noticed that office politics in the workplace and the fact that I read slower than others have affected the jobs I have gotten and been able to keep or not keep. I agree with both of Jerry Agar's articles, 10 Ways Government Hurts the Poor and 10 Ways Profits Help The Poor. I have had people in my neighborhood suggest to me to take advantage of the system or the government. Well, I wasn't raised to believe that that is acceptable. It is not acceptable. Our government does not exist for me or any other person to take advantage of it. In fact, it seems to me the our government seems to suck you in like a leech which usually makes you reliant and beholden to it for a long while. I want to be able to make it in life without having to rely on the goverment. In college now, I am gaining the tools to better myself and be able to do that in a much better fashion than in the past. In the meantime I would love it if I could find a job in journalism or something similar. A part-time office job would be great, also. I am thinking positive, that God will lead me to find a great sit-down job. By-sit down I am talking about not having to work retail or fast food and having to stand for 6-8 hours in a day. In thinking of New Years resolution & wishes I am going to working my hardest to find a great sit down job, work hard to get excellent grades in college, want to finish a project I have been working on, and publish it so that I am able to help young women with healthy dating practices, finding a better apartment, and praying, thinking positive that this year will be the year that I start my scroll saw or woodworking business, and hoping and thinking positive thoughts that God's healing touch will come upon me and heal my endometriosis.

Happy New Year Teresa!
What a beautiful post. You and I are thinking SO ALIKE! I just renewed Joel's latest book from my library yesterday! I tried to renew on line, but it said that someone else had requested it. I went in and then the system was updated and I was able to renew it.

I'm almost 1/2 way through, and it is an EXCELLENT book. So full of great advice to let us know, no matter how hard life has been, and what we have gone thru....just a little while longer, and staying in faith and GOD will reward us.

I wish you only the best for all your wonderful Goals to come true in the New Year and Always!
God Bless and Happy New Year, 2010.

PS: On my other page, I have a direct link to Joels Sermons, you haven't visited there in a bit, have you seen it. He goes back about 5 weeks and each sermon is expanded and full of good words.

I love that you are "out there", I appreciate forth right and honest writing. So much of the time people just self promote and as a result we have ended up with a society that is superficial.

Here are couple of words of encouragement for you - Paul the Apostle was afflicted by the Lord to keep him humble, many surmise that it was his eye sight as evidenced in his reference to his large signature and by the fact that he dictated some of his letters. The Lord used Paul in a Mighty way, because in our weakness, His strength is made perfect.

God Bless You!

Thanks, Bunni.

I haven't really listened to any of Joel Osteen sermons but after reading the first four chapters of his book I would love to hear some of his sermons. I'll stop over your blog and listen to some of his sermons soon.

I hope you have a most blessed, and healthy Happy New Year.

That's it, Teresa ... tell those folks in your neighborhood that once the government gets you it's almost impossible to get away.

You're right to keep your pride. It'll get you a lot farther than anything government can ever give you.

Happy New Year!

Good Luck and may god bless you this year. You are actually making your own luck by going to school and refusing to jump on the government bandwagon to the liberal democrat plantation of empty promises.

Have you read Ecclesiastes lately? Many think it is depressing, but below the surface it has a very positive message. All is vanity, because this world is not the end, and God would never give you anything bad.

Thanks for sharing your story and don't get down, believe me, as you may or may not know, I've had ms for 10 years, spent 2 in a chair recently and am now walking again.

So, things can and do get better if, as you smartly say and do, you don't fall into the "boo hoo help me obama" category that many do.

It's definitely a primer for failure. Keep your chin up and anything I can do to help just ask, Meanwhile happy new year to you and yours and may it be a healthy and prosperous one for you Teresa :)

Teresa, I know where you're coming from, as I'm a quadriplegic... I spent about a year total between the hospital and spinal cord rehab... I was married at the time to a woman who thought the government should take care of me... I too was raised to believe that you don't fall into that cess pool known as welfare... I was on SSI disability making $654.00 a month, hell I drink more beer than that... (just doing my part to support the breweries) So I got rid of her and went about living life... I interviewed with a company and told them that if need be, I'll come in earlier and stay later... When I went in for the second interview, the owners showed me the pad that the person who interviewed me wrote his notes on... There at the top of the page was my name and one word underlined multiple times... That word was "ATTITUDE"... That was 20 years ago last July and I've been working there ever since... Teresa, you have an advantage over most, you have pride and integrity... You will succede in your endeavors because you know how to succede, you are living proof of that...
