Elections have consequences. Unfortunately, many 'moderates' and conservatives were upset at the profligate spending of the Republican Congress and Presidency of 2001-2005 and either didn't vote in 2006 and 2008 or voted for the other side. Alot of these people made statements that "the two parties are the same," or it "doesn't make any difference, they're all crooked." Wrong. The two parties are not the same, and by staying home and allowing an enormous dem majority in both houses and a leftist president, we now have socialism in the USA. Are you guys proud you 'taught the Republicans a leesson'?
I'm not saying the Republicans were great 2001-2006, but they were a darned sight better than the alternative we are now faced with. It will be a miracle if we can undo the damage that has been done.
Taking veneremurcernui's lead, I do believe the Republican spend-fest prompted, especially, Independents to lose their minds. The sad thing for Bush was the war. He needed Democrats, who already bailed on WMD - gleefully - to vote for his war budget, so he vetoed nothing, never guess the disasterous consequences we are now facing.
This video is terrifying. We know this is where it is going. I'm praying, literally, for intervention.
That video is scary indeed. It is what we will be dealing with if we don't take the wind out of BO's sails.
BTW veneremurcernui's and Maggie Thornton's comments were spot on. BO didn't win a mandate, he got 39% of the vote. Many stayed home to teach the republicans a lesson. That's a high price for all of us to pay.
to "oldie": I disagree with you that Medicare should be abolished. I believe that its cost increases are less than those of the private medical system, and that it has a greater rate of patient satisfaction.
Well, it's pretty clear that the lefties are interested in "fairness and equality." They'll see to it that our system is just as screwed up as the others are. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it?
nyp, I never said Medicare should be ended. I said it's one of the reasons medical costs are so high. The government only reimburses doctors and hospitals a portion of the actual costs. Throw in the indigents and you and I make up the difference. Get the government out of it and let the insurance companies compete without the government and the f***ing lawyers you would see a great change. The government doesn't run things well ... a proven fact !
Maggie, I agree. Bush opened the door to this nightmare. I believe the both spirit and will of the American people will prevail and this monstrosity will be repealed.
Odie, Government health care is the reason that health care costs have risen over the past few decades or so. I think nyp needs to give up some his government wealth and spread the wealth to others, less fortunate. Or does nyp want to bankrupt America?
Cube, Those people who stayed home in order to teach the Republicans a lesson ended up screwing themselves and the rest of us. That kind of moral high ground is like the moral gutter (low) ground.
Back in the 90's, I was an office manager for an internist's office. When the hospital next door put in a new MRI machine, many doctors invested money in the joint venture to bring about this wonderful new technology. It wasn't long before we started getting memos to make all Medicare patients with any joint pain to have an MRI.
Comon! Unless you are planning surgery, there is very little reason to have a pricey MRI for a geriatric patient.
This is one reason why insurance premiums are out of control. Just plain greed.

Well, now ... it's nice to know we (don't) have a feature if we're sick. Thanks, Obama.
Isn't Medicare a single payer system?
nyp, you're absolutely right, and it's broke. It is one of the largest reasons why medical costs keep climbing in this country.

to "odie" - oh, I see. "Get the government's hands off my Medicare!"
Veneremurcernui,
I agree whole heartedly with your statement!
God can bring miracles so I am having faith that this legislation will be overturned. Plus, It is the peoples will for this bill to be overturned.
WHT,
The government couldn't take care of a paper doll well.

Snarky,
Obama's killed the health care industry with one stroke of a pen.
Obama--the ruination of America.

Matt,
I think I'm feeling more prickly inside than fuzzy.
"Socialism always fails when you run out of other peoples' money" M.T.
End of discussion for me ...
