Neal McDonough Refuses to Act in Heated Love Scenes in Scoundrels & Gets Fired

I find it utterly despicable that ABC has fired Neal McDonough because he refused to take part in heated love scenes with Virginia Madsen on ABC's new series Scoundrels instead of  respecting his moral values, and working around the issue.  Neal is a family man and a Catholic.  In addition,  he has always made it clear that he won't do sex scenes so this wasn't something new that came up out of the blue. And, ABC knew this from day one, when they hired him.  Hollywood liberals (and liberals in general) like to think that they are the most tolerant people, when in fact they are the most intolerant people on the face of the earth.  This proves that liberals do not respect individual actors' morals if it happens to be different than their own.  Hollywood is primarily a cesspool of immoral libs and has made it clear that if you don't follow their lifestyle of sexual deviancy than your not a part of the in crowd, and you will get punished for that.

I object to your assertion that I am one of the most intolerant people on earth. I'm not Catholic (I'm agnostic at best) and would be considered a liberal on the political spectrum but I support Neal 100% for sticking to his guns. He has made a personal decision, one I respect entirely, and while Hollywood may see him as a commodity, he's the one who's got to look in the mirror every day and see a person he's proud of. Good on you Neal.

But actors who do take part in sex scenes are no better or worse, they've just make different personal decisions with regards to their career.

RE: kenobi on a prayer,

If true, why not join the Tea Party?

Furthermore you make for a rarity amongst your peers, what does it say of those peers in firing him? Liberals are all about accomodation and "special circumstances" so why did they not practice what they preach in this instance?

I do not buy your comment at all, just a smoke screen.

Excellent post. While your typical liberal next door (which are few in number) are not typically intolerant, the liberals pushing agendas such as those calling the shots at a tv network, or lecturing at an ivy league college are downright militant and are quickly pushing a more militant agenda as obama has not been at all effective at selling their agenda to, or pushing their agenda on the American people.
Kenobi here is on a political blog, pushing a political agenda. Kenobi's taking of offense to T.A's comment either shows a lack of intellectual honesty or a sign of being totally naive. Kenobi sees the actions of liberals with agenda driven motives, then takes offense at T.A's observations. If Kenobi does not want to be judged by the actions of those in power who represent her ideology, Kenobi should stand against those who are being intolerant. The actions of those at ABC were intolerant. It's easy to side with a fired actor but what about standing against those who are intolerant? That is the basis of liberalism, right?

I suspect he was targeted for firing. They knew this would drive him out. He was likely set up.

If they had wanted to keep him, they could have gotten a stand-in for the scenes. If he is so critical for the sex scenes, they why is it OK for him to be fired?

Most TV shows and movies have extremely detailed contracts that cover what an actor will and won't do. These contracts leave nothing to the imagination. Kiss? Yes. Kiss with Open Mouth? No. Kiss for more than 3 seconds? Yes. 4 seconds? No. There are many many TV and film actors that limit what they will do in terms of sex scenes and nudity. It appears in this case either the actor or the producer didn't dot all the i's and cross all the t's before starting production. The series hasn't even started airing yet so it's really no big deal.

In general, the word "tolerance" for the left means that you're free to agree with them as much as you like. If you don't agree, then you're engaging in "hate," and can be silenced or otherwise punished.

Of course people on both sides of the political spectrum can be guilty of intolerance and hypocrisy. That doesn't mean all people who identify with certain political views are clones of one another. And that's all I was saying.

As for why the producers of Scoundrels didn't work around Neal's well known stance, I wouldn't know; Marc Cherry was more than happy to accommodate Neal on Desperate Housewives a couple of years ago. But this is a different show and if they think the scenes are needed for whatever reason, that's their call. The troubling part is not the existence of love scenes, but rather the fact that it appears Scoundrels' producers have misled Neal during contract negotiations.

Kenobi on a prayer,
If the shoe fits so be it. You may be one of the few tolerant liberals in America. Hollywood liberals have spread their hate of differing points of view that to many other liberals across America-anything that is Christian is unacceptable in Hollywood and our society at large. This whole fiasco by ABC is self-evident of the intolerance committed by Hollywood liberals. There are plenty of ways that Scoundrels producers could have worked around this and respected Neal's beliefs other than firing him. I am sure if the person was of a different religion (Muslim) they would have done everything to bend over backwards for the person.

Christopher,
Kenobi sure is a rarity among liberals.

Someone dropped the ball in hiring McDonough for this role. If steamy love scenes were so important for this program, then they shouldn't have wasted his time.

I'm glad someone is standing up to the perverts in Hollyweird, though, because if you don't provide some resistance, they'll pull out all the stops.

Andrew33,
Great points!! People need to stand up against the people who are subjecting their intolerance onto others. And, the intolerance of the liberals at college is transferred to the students(maybe to a lesser degree but the continued liberal propaganda being shoved down the throats of college kids is affecting them and their beliefs). It is easy to feel sorry for the guy who was wronged but it takes courage to speak out against that injustice and take on the ones who committed that injustice.

Stan,
I do agree it would have been a much bigger deal of the series had started airing already. But, I do think it is a big deal because it shows the pervasiveness of both intolerance and an anti-Christian bias being committed in Hollywood today.

OPie,
I think that he was setup also. I do think they could have worked around his moral beliefs and gotten a stand-in for the sex scenes.

Matt,
You hit the nail on the head!

Cube,
I am glad that someone is standing up for his morals in Hollyweird, also.

I would be extremely far fetched to think that Hollywood atheism pimps could actually be capable of intentionally
pulling such a stunt to blacklist a "Christian" or "Conservative" actor or screenwriter that they ideologically disagree with. Such things have never happened before, right? Just ask Mel Gibson about that. People need to
wake up to the fact that "tolerance" is not the agenda of the Atheism pimps and our way of life where individualism is cherished and religious freedom is a right are incompatible. We cannot simply live side by side with these people unless it is by their rules exclusively. These people hate us. They hate our values, and our freedoms and most of all they are at war with Christianity. There is a growing willingness within the atheist community to utilize any means necessary to achieve their goals including violence, revolution and war. This is why liberals who have views such as Kenobi (if they are sincere) are few and far between.

I saw this and wanted to give him a big high five. Something tells me he will become much more popular in for taking this stand. Most people are still decent.
