Catholic Stuff: The Sexual Abuse Issue & Is Peggy Noonan Stuck in First Gear?

There has been some confusion regarding the media's misinterpretation of Cardinal Christoph Schönborn's words so Father Fessio has clarified the Cardinal's remarks.  Maybe, the good Cardinal, in his willingness to be open and transparent, overestimated the media's intelligence?

Jack Valero points out that the abuse problem is not only a Catholic Problem but becoming a problem of great proportions across the board and has reached American teachers, relatives, and Sweden's secular state schools but yet, the media ONLY focuses on and targets the Catholic Church.

Is Peggy Noonan stuck in first gear when the Church has moved into third gear?  Has she even read SACRAMENTORUM SANCTITATIS TUTELA ?  Does she realize exactly what steps the Church has done in order to address the abuse issue?  She charges the Church with complacency but isn't looking at the history of what the Church has done to address the priest sexual abuse issue. Has she acknowledged anything that the Church has done to address the priest sexual abuse issue?  Please, someone point out to me if she has has acknowledged the very important steps the Church has taken to address the priest abuse scandals.

I pray for the Bride of Christ each day. I know there are problems and that Satan is behind it all. I believe the liberal agenda of the press amplifies the immoral and animates public opinion on the issue. The true wicked entity here; that being the abuse and stealth punishment of abusers, has fueled the anger of the abused and the public. We must have an effective deterrent against these acts and the best is public rebuke of the guilty. Far too long names were withheld and the persons responsible not dealt with in ways which would end the behavior. I believe that is changing but the change has not come without a price. Abusers should be revealed and defrocked publically to prevent Godly priests from stereotypical inclusion. Only then can the Church be seen as a place that purges itself justly.

Eman,
I agree with you on everything except the public defrocking bit only because for the Pope to publicly defrock a priest would be hard because of the Pope and priests being in different locations. I do think that the Pope should call out their names and denounce them in public, though. Maybe, the Pope could call on the Bishops to call out these priest pedophiles publicly also. Even when the priests are defrocked they are still free until civil authorities do their proper duty.

Noonan's been slipping for a while, Teresa. And you're right about this being a huge problem in schools now. I can't go a day without hearing about some teacher molesting some kid (or kids). It's just sickening.

No matter what steps the Church takes, liberals won't care, they'll continue to smear and tar the entire church. As for the growing problem of abuse in government schools, they couldn't care less. Leftists believe in nothing, besides they are happy to puncture the skull of an unborn baby and murder it in cold blood, so why would anyone think they give a damn about some teacher molesting children.
