Massive Earthquake Strikes Chile

A massive earthquake measuring 8.8 on the richter scale struck the center of Chile today, with a force 1000 times more powerful than the Haiti tragedy. This has rocked the whole world. People all over the world are being called to give aid to the many earthquake victims. Sadly, there are over 200 innocent lives that have lost their lives due to this massive earthquake.

This is a picture of where the earthquake struck in Chile.

It is a miracle that more lives were not lost. This was really the "big one". They must have good building codes in Chile, or the lives lost would be in the thousands or tens of thousands.

I was also proud of how well the coastal areas around the Pacific were evacuated.

And the twitpics came out so quickly. Amazing what new technology can bring to news reporting. Fox News showed twitpics all afternoon.

Prayers go out to the families of the missing and the dead.

Thankfully, Chile had constructed buildings to withstand earthquakes.

That said, such construction cannot protect against an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude.

I agree with Opus. It is a miracle that there weren't more fatalities.

It's the tale of two countries, when compared with Haiti.

Nothing can prepare one for this. I'm trying to find the best way to donate. Red Cross is my first thought but I'm looking for more. I can't imagine how this must have been for those poor folks. I align myself with all of you in prayer and fasting for this land and it's people.
