It was one heck of a journey getting home from classes today. SNOW!, Glorious, SNOW! . Or NOT? Thank God for there being a neutral gear. The neutral gear is very useful in inclement weather. While driving home, and what seemed to be before the snow plows and salt trucks made it to the back roads, I almost went swivy swervy into the next lane. Well, may dad has given me great driving advice over the years. My dad was a great driving instructor!!! He has always emphasized to me the importance of using neutral when going sliding in the snow. As the saying goes, Father knows best! And, it is oh, so true! Then, while traveling on a busier route a dang truck splashed a huge amount of slush and snow right on my windshield and I couldn't get my wipers to work for a few seconds. Well, I was close to panicking. I tell you, those moments felt like an eternity to me at the time. Thank goodness I got my wipers to work, and I didn't crash into anyone in front of me and no car crashed into me either. I do believe that God was watching out for me. It ended up taking me about three times the normal amount of time it usually takes for me to get home. The back roads were awful. I was lucky there weren't too many cars out on the road. We are forecasted to get anywhere between 10 and 14 inches. My husband gets done with work at midnight and I am supposed to be picking him up tonight. Oh BOY! We'll see how picking him up goes. Round 2 with SNOW, glorious, SNOW., or NOT? He might end up calling a cab and I hope the cab drivers will still be working with the snow accumulating like it is, because I really hate driving in the snow. I am home, safe, warm and in my apartment relaxing for now.

Neutral is good...
Remember to never lock the brakes. Use your lower gears to help you slow down if possible. Also, pump your brakes occasionally in rain or snow just to be sure that they are dry and ready for action.
Turn with the spin, rather than against it. You'll likely glide to a smooth sideways halt as opposed to careening off the side of the road, or God forbid if the tires grab and you've turned your wheel into the spin, then you're headed into oncoming traffic.
Can you tell I grew up in snowy Cleveland?
It was sunny and 70 here in Phoenix today - I don't miss living in the snow one bit...
Most Rev. Gregori,
That snow must have really been coming down hard to cause you to go that slow driving. Whooey. Craziness.
Soloman,
Thanks for the great advice. As it stands now, we've got about 18 inches now and I would say that Allegheny County was quite unprepared for this amount of snow even with having knowledge that the storm was coming. Let's just say, my street hasn't been plowed since around 6:00pm last night and my hubbies stuck at work for now.
I really wish I was living in Texas or Phoenix right now. Well, anywhere with warm temps.
Dear Teresa, I was very scared reading about your driving ordeal. I know you had angels on your steering wheel, tires and everywhere else.
Please try not to drive unless you ABSOLUTELY have to, it's very dangerous. I had to walk home from the dentist yesterday, and it was snow/sleet, and it was SO SLIPPERY, that I just waited for the bus, I didn't even want to walk. I hope the snow stops for you soon, don't over do it.
PS: I don't drive at all, It always scared me.
I didn't have a father to teach me like yours did,
God Bless great fathers too! Luv ya, Bunni
Amusing Bunni,
I am so HAPPY and relieved to know that you made it home safe and sound. Walking in the snow can be dangerous when it gets slick out.
The roads are better than they were last night so I might be traversing out to get Kevin. I am still trying to dig the car out of the snow.
Have a fun-filled weekend!:)
Sorry Teresa, you can have your snow. Like Soloman I moved from the east to get away from it and don't regret it one bit.
Stay safe and warm and hopefully you don't lose power. And don't hurt yourself shoveling.
