R.I.P. George Jones
George Jones passed away today at the age of 81. RIP George Jones.
I'm not a big fan of country music. That said, I have long admired George Jones, who clearly mastered the intricacies of effective phrasing. His music is real music -- not merely notes.
Jones' was part of the first country concert at Madison Square Garden, a four-show, 10-act package in 1964 that also included Ernest Tubb, Bill Monroe and Buck Owens. Each act was allotted two songs per show, but on the opening night Mr. Jones played five before he was carried offstage.
Which of his songs was my favorite: "She Thinks I Still Care."
